CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School is a time for kids to hear the stories of the people of God and wonder about them as they create and play together. We have three classes, a Pre-K class, a lower elementary class, and upper elementary class that meet in the preschool hall. Our fifth graders move to the UPNext class where they
meet with our sixth graders upstairs in the education wing.
FAITH EXPLORERS
Faith Explorers is the elementary fellowship group. Kids in grades 3-5 are encouraged to join us on the second Friday of the month to share supper, learn, and play together. This year, we will be exploring the fruit of the spirit as we learn about social-emotional regulation and building kind community.
COVENANT KIDS
We love our Covenant Kids and believe that they should be a full part of the worship life of the congregation. We also recognize that little ones are not built to be still! They learn through movement and play. Worship Bags provide a kid-friendly way to interact with worship. A kinesthetic worship guide, fidgets, puzzles, and a special children’s bulletin allow kids to move and wiggle while still being engaged in worship.
NURSERY CARE
Our youngest members, ages 0-3, are invited to spend time with our nursery staff and volunteers in the nursery during the worship service. While we delight in their active participation in the sanctuary, we offer this safe space of exploration for our families.
All adults in our church family are invited to share the love with our young children by volunteering to assist our nursery care worker occasionally throughout the church year. Please contact Rae Watson to volunteer.
YOUTH MINISTRY
MIDDLE SCHOOL SUNDAY SCHOOL
UP Next is our middle-grade Sunday School. In this class, our fifth and sixth-graders will explore faith through scripture, theology, mission, and worship.
Middle School Manna
Middle School Manna is a youth fellowship group for youth in middle school students. We gather on the third Friday from 6:30-8 for a meal, fellowship, games, and a lesson. This year, we will be exploring the ways that we are called to service as disciples.
Youth Sunday School
Holy Disruptions is our Youth Sunday School component. Arranged into four-week units, the students will explore different themes such as What about Forgiveness, Finding Ourselves, Discovering Justice in the OldTestament, Exploring Prayer, and the Environment and Our Faith.
Youth Mini-Missions
YOUth Mini Missions is a youth fellowship group for youth in high school. They meet at the church on the Saturday following the third Friday to participate in a mission project. They will be joined by a member of our Outreach committee who works with a particular mission in our community and will go to work with them in places like Renewing Homes Augusta, the Blue Ridge Food Bank, Jones Garden, Verona Community Center, the Community Child Care Center, and others.
Journey of Faith - Confirmation Class
Confirmation Classes prepare youth to make a profession of faith and become members of the church. It explores the theology and polity of the PCUSA and gives space for youth to ask questions as they discern whether this is the right time and right step for them.
MEGA YOUTH GROUP - Middle & High School
Mega YOUth Group is the combined middle and high school youth group. Four times a year, we get together to have fun and play games. We will have our annual Ding Dong Hockey game in January, a Spring Egg Knockerball game in March, and a summer game day in May.
ADULTS MINISTRY
SUNDAY MORNING FAITH FORMATION
We offer two classes this semester:
Faith Formation – Adults are invited to join us in the Fellowship Hall each Sunday morning to explore faith together. This semester, we will be learning more about discipleship and faithful practices. We will begin with the practice of lament. The topics for each month vary. We know schedules are busy, you can drop in whenever you can and learn in community with us!
Exploring Sacred Art – Explore the history and evolution of Christianity and the church through the lens of sacred art. From 2nd century catacomb paintings to 21st century modern glass chapels, from medieval reliquaries to Protestant Vanitas flower paintings, we will explore how each century shaped and molded the faith. Come curious and open-minded, for art is meant to inspire, evoke, and help us uncover the questions we so often have!
MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
Join the pastors each Monday morning at 10:30 in Room 6 for a preview of next Sunday’s text. Come with questions or just a sense of wonder, and we will explore the texts and their implications on our faithful living. If you would like to attend virtually through Zoom, please contact the church office.
ACT III MINISTRIES
Act III is a ministry geared for older adults, generally in their 70s or above, who are navigating the blessings and challenges that come with age. In our time together, we will strengthen community, study scriptures through the lens of aging, and explore our vocation and discipleship in this particular stage of life. Anyone who identifies with this stage is invited to join us for Morning Prayer, including fellowship, worship, and study, on Fridays at 10:30am at Baldwin Park.
PARENTING & FAITH
Being a parent is never an easy job. Being a parent today brings a unique set of challenges as well. If you are parent, either of teens or of little ones, let’s gather to figure out what faithful parenting looks like today and also to share our stories, celebrations, and struggles with others who are raising the future today. Keep an eye out for parent meet-ups this fall.
INQUIRER'S CLASS
Would you like to be a member of Covenant? Ever wonder why Presbyterians do what they do? Keep an eye out for the next Inquirers class that will be offered this fall. John will explore the core beliefs of the PC(USA), the history of the church, our ministry and practice here at Covenant, and the meaning of membership in the church.
